Sibenik was the first city in the world to have street lighting powered by alternating current (AC) electricity, designed by inventor Nikola Tesla and installed in 1895, predating many other cities around the globe.

Some scenes from the popular TV series "Game of Thrones" were filmed in Sibenik, including scenes depicting the city of Braavos.
